New Varieties

St Laurent

Stanmore Farm has worked closely with Paul Jacobsen of Judge Rock Wines in Alexandra, who imported this exciting new clone and now we have bulked up the material to the point where we can offer good numbers of vines.

Veraison and harvest should occur earlier than Pinot noir and therefore provide an alternative red variety.  The grape is described in Jancis Robinson’s ‘Guide to Wine Grapes’ as capable of producing the finest quality wines with deep coloured velvety juicy fruit and low tannin.  At the 2004 Romeo Bragato Conference Dr Richard Smart recommended this variety for New Zealand conditions.
