Raspberry Plants

In addition to our business of growing nursery grapevines we have a number of other business interests, including a jam kitchen.

Stanmore Farm was once a major supplier to Anathoth and for a decade we made around 30% of their jam under contract.  We don't supply Anathoth now because they have their own facilities but over the past year or two we have been supplying another company under the Orchard Delight brand.  We acquired that brand in April this year and are currently in the process of giving it a make over.

Watch this space for more information about the upgraded product but meantime you can learn more about Orchard Delight by visiting its own website

The point about all of this, is that as a jam maker we are acutely aware of the shortage of NZ grown raspberries.  We don't grow raspberries ourselves and are dependent on obtaining supplies from other NZ growers.  Every other jam maker resorts to imports but we aren't going there.  It is our policy to only make our jam from New Zealand fruit and while imported fruit is generally cheaper, the problem is that you just don't know what you are going to get and often what you get, is just not good enough.

We have heard, but can't confirm, that NZ growers only produce about 50% of the requirements of local manufacturers and most of them are pretty keen to get some more local fruit because generally it is better quality.

So you would think that it is just a matter of getting growers to plant more raspberries.  But there's another problem.  There are no plants.

As a solution we have decided to throw our nursery experience and wonderful facilities behind getting some raspberry plants available for growers.  So if you have any interest in planting out some raspberries next winter (2010) please let us know promptly and we will get the process started.

You can email us here or phone 0800 STANMORE for more information.
